In this episode of EdYouWell, we explore ways for teachers to be well and do well—both at work and at home. We focus on the actionable stage of doing well with the acronym W.E.L.L. Living a life of wellness requires more than just being well; it involves taking deliberate actions to do well. Let’s break down the four components of doing well—Want, Envision, Leverage, and Lean in.
☑️ What to Expect:
W – Want: What do you want for yourself? It's an important question that many of us overlook, especially when we’re busy focusing on the wants and needs of others. But knowing what you want for your own well-being is essential to achieving it. Whether it’s more calm, creativity, or connection, start by identifying one specific thing that you want. It could be as simple as taking time for yourself each morning or pursuing a new hobby. Once you know what you want, you can begin making decisions that align with that desire.
E – Envision: Next comes Envision. Visualization is a powerful tool that helps you see what you want before you achieve it. Picture yourself in a state of wellness—whether that’s relaxing in a yoga class, taking a peaceful walk, or enjoying a calm evening at home. By creating a mental image of success, you prepare yourself to take steps toward making that vision a reality. The act of envisioning helps reduce anxiety and builds a sense of purpose and direction.
L – Leverage: To make your vision a reality, it’s important to leverage your resources. What tools, people, or opportunities do you have access to that can help you get what you want? Maybe you need to delegate tasks at home or school, ask for help from a colleague, or free up time in your schedule. Get creative in figuring out how to use the resources available to you to support your wellness goals.
L – Lean In: Finally, Lean In. Once you've identified what you want, envisioned it, and leveraged your resources, it’s time to commit fully to the process. This means setting routines, sticking to your schedule, and staying dedicated to the actions that support your well-being. It might require letting go of other obligations or making small sacrifices, but leaning into your own wellness is how you do well.
💧Well Wishes: By focusing on these four areas—Want, Envision, Leverage, and Lean In—you take purposeful action to improve your wellness. It’s about making intentional choices that support your goals, both in and out of the classroom. Remember, your well-being matters, and the more you practice doing well, the more balanced and fulfilled you feel.
As always, be well, do well.
